Legendary distance runner, Kathrine Switzer will be a special guest of the Melbourne Marathon on August 2. Switzer changed the sporting landscape in 1967 when she ran the Boston Marathon against the wishes of the race director, who attacked her mid-stride and tried to remove her from the all-male event. Switzer campaigned for sports equity for women and in 1972 Boston relented, allowing women to run. Switzer went on to win the 1974 New York Marathon and became a TV commentator on marathons. She is the author of several marathon books and an inspirational speaker.
On August 2, Kathrine will be the special guest at the Melbourne Runner's Lunch at the MCG.
Tickets for this one-off event will go on sale via our website at 9:00am on Wednesday May 15.
The first 10 people to purchase tickets to the lunch, will be offered the once in a lifetime opportunity to attend a training session with Kathrine herself.
